First Aid for Students, DofE, Youth Groups

Teaching young people first aid is a great life-saving skill. We offer bespoke courses to satisfy the national curriculum, DofE, or youth group awards.   We can deliver a full day session for a single group, or teach shorter sessions to multiple groups in the same day. All our sessions are delivered by a highly qualified and experienced teacher and first aider in a fun, friendly and engaging way. We keep these sessions as practical as possible – with students taking it in turns to be the casualty and first aider.  Although this is not a regulated qualification, we can provide a certificate for each pupil if you wish!

Additional Information

These sessions can be tailored to cover the topics that are most suitable for the group. We would always advise covering what to do if they come across an incident, how to deal with an unconscious casualty (safe airway position) and how to get help. Please contact us to discuss this in more detail.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, this is actually very common! Please contact us to discuss what course you would like and for how many people.

Please bring a notebook, pen, packed lunch and snacks. If possible, we will provide tea/coffee but please be aware that at some venues this isn’t possible. There may be the option to buy tea/coffee or food depending on the venue.

For outdoor first aid courses we will be spending some time outside doing scenarios so please make sure you dress in clothing you are happy if they get a little bit muddy, and which are suitable for the weather.

Please dress in clothing suitable for practical elements of the course. You will be paired up and acting as a casualty and first aider for some of the course.

For outdoor courses, please bring clothing you are happy to lie down in outside, and which are appropriate for the weather. Please bring waterproofs.

Yes, we meet all the HSE requirements for every first aid course we offer.

In 2013 the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) stopped issuing training licenses to first aid training companies.  Since then any business or individual selecting a provider has been required to carry out due diligence to ensure the provider meets their requirements.  The HSE can’t advise you on this, but it published a list of questions that you should be asking a potential provider.

To help you we have listed and answered all the HSE due diligence questions in the document below. If after reading the document you have any further questions please do not hesitate to get in touch.

HSE Due Diligence Questions and Answers

All the first aid courses have practical elements, but we will make adjustments where we can as we want as many people to learn first aid as possible. However, to achieve the certification you will be required to show you can do certain elements with a casualty on the floor such as putting someone in the safe airway/recovery position and performing CPR. If you are unsure, please don’t hesitate to contact us to see how we can adapt the course to your needs.

All cancellations must be made by email to whatsnottohike@gmail.com. If its 8 weeks before the date of the course/event, we will give a full refund, less 20% of the course/event cost to cover administration fees.

If its less than 8 weeks until the course/event starts then once notified of the cancellation, WNTH will try to resell your course/event place(s) if the course/event achieves full capacity. If WNTH is able to re-sell your place(s) prior to the commencement date of the course/event, you will receive a full refund less 20% of the course/event cost to cover administration fees. Refunds will only be made after the commencement date of the course.

You are also welcome to transfer your ticket to someone else but please let us know at least 48hrs in advance as they will be required to complete the Medical Declaration and Consent Form.

In the event that its within 8 weeks of the course and WNTH is unable to re-sell your place(s) prior to the course commencement date no refunds will be given. To cover this eventuality we recommend an insurance policy that includes cancellation or curtailment of your course or trip

Generally we start around 9.00. Different first aid courses have different start and finish times. We will always detail the exact timings on the Joining Instructions that are sent after booking.

These are all non-residential courses, however there are lots of nice B&Bs, hostels and hotels in the Peak District.

We work to set ratios on first aid courses, in general this is 1 instructor to 12 clients.  If the course numbers go above 12 we may still run the course with an additional trainer.

The HSE states that if a business requires specialist first aid training they should take an appropriate course.   So, if the nature of your work means you are best placed taking an Outdoor First Aid course rather than First Aid at Work, you can make that choice.

Yes – please get in touch to discuss what it is you are looking for.

All our instructors have professional indemnity and public liability insurance. However, you may wish to consider buying personal accident and cancellation insurance for yourself.

We supply all the technical equipment you’ll need for your course free of charge.  You just need to bring yourself, a notebook, pen, food and water. Please see the other FAQ detailing what to wear.

WNTH is registered with the Information Commissioner for data protection and all information supplied to us remains completely confidential. We will never pass it on to third parties.
